Unemployed English Major, 2026

I spent a week

in my room

bleeding from something

that was deemed a biological necessity

and curled up in bed

watching as the news talked of

terrible men doing terrible things

and no one did anything

and the only thing that kept me from screaming

was the small apartment that I lived in

and not wanting to scare my neighbors

and thinking of how they wouldn’t vote for a woman

because the worst thing they could think of

was she was too emotional for the job

perhaps the real worry should be

that men are not emotional enough
