Working on a script

I’ve fiddled with script writing before, but I never fully embraced it. I always thought I didn’t know enough. But I’m in my thirties and decided I wanted to embrace what I actually wanted to do: be a screenwriter. So, I’m currently getting my English degree through Southern New Hampshire University.

I am going to be applying to fellowships soon which means I need scripts to share. So, I’ve been working on a pilot for a drama called “Fitting In”.

Fitting in follows plus size Maeve as a teenager in the 2000s growing up in a town by the Mexican border. It’s based on the town I grew up in, Jamul, and inspired by parts of my life.

When I was younger, I always saw plus size girls on screen as the one being made fun of. Never the narrator. In fact, I can really only think of two shows that had a plus size character as one of the leads–My Mad Fat Diary—and Bridgerton.

My hope is that the show will be able to talk about teenagers who feel like they are on the outside for one reason or another. Whether that’s a weight issue, class issue, or identity.

I loved WB shows as a kid, and I want to write the kind of dramas that actually showed real people.

With love,

Diana Crescent
