Look, I don’t know who I am if I don’t write something about what’s going on with Taylor Swift at some point. Mostly because, her music has kept me going since high school. I didn’t expect that there would be a documentary about the Era’s Tour.
I thought, if we were going to get another documentary, it would be about the re-record process. But since the Era’s Tour enabled her to get her master’s, it makes sense that she would make one about that instead. Also, I imagine the tour brings her a lot more joy than having to re-record her songs because some asshole with a big check bought them out from her.
As a former theater kid, would-be screenwriter, and someone who appreciates the entertainment industry, I enjoyed the documentary. It was nice to see Taylor in her work element.
I always say there’s Taylor and then there’s Taylor Swift, the popstar. And weirdly, she somehow balances everything. Also, I loved that she showed her crew and we got to learn about the people who helped make it possible.
It truly felt like seeing Taylor clock-in and seeing her love and admire her colleagues (dancers, backup singers, crew). People will always have something to say about her, but the thing I’ve always liked about Taylor is she does try to be inclusive in what she does.
Maybe not everyone notices or it isn’t to everyone’s ideal, but sometimes the way to make the world a better place is in how you carry yourself with others. And having a genuine love for what you do, the people you work with, and those that support you is just as important as talking about doing good.
Not to mention creating safe spaces where people can find joy in times of darkness. And that’s what the Era’s tour did and Taylor does with her music.
