I exist for myself

They think you are a woman

from the time you are a girl

theirs to do with what they want

and god forbid you have a mind of your own

and a life that does not align with one they

can consume and use

they sneer at the single, childless women

say how desperate, how lonely

they must be so sad

but I am the first woman in my family

with no duty or responsibility to anyone but me

I exist for myself

I answer to myself

and it is quite revolutionary

let them sneer and laugh

I am doing things my grandmother never dreamed of

and I will keep on doing them

without the opinion of men
