Fake Dating the Alpha, Chapter 2

Two

The shocked ‘what’ came out a little too loud. “Shh!” Calix put his finger to his lips. “Don’t be so loud. We don’t want the wrong people hearing.”

“But I—I—I can’t marry a werewolf I—-”

He knocked on the wall behind the statue of The First Werewolf king, which peered down at me like I’d offended it. Calix glanced over his shoulder. “Are you coming?”

“Calix, you can’t spring something like this on me.”

“Look, I’ve known you for a long time. When have I ever led you astray? Except, maybe, that one night I allowed you to drink vampire blood because you were curious…”

“That was mean! I was sick for four days. I thought I was going to DIE!”

He smirked. “I would never let you die, Sweetie. You’re much too entertaining to have around. But I wasn’t kidding about that favor. Come along. Everyone’s dying to meet you. I really talked you up, so you’ve got to be impressive.”

“Talked me up?” I frowned. “Why are you talking me up to werewolves?”

“Because, you are a human who wants to work in the Peace Brokers, aren’t you? You’re always yammering on about how amazing you think they are. I remember you got into that fight with your mother not long ago about it. You spent all of that time at college only to never do anything with it…”

“Yes, but I don’t start until September!”

He chuckled. “That’s only a minor detail. Are you coming?”

He went into the hole in the wall that appeared suddenly after he knocked. I hesitated at the entrance, and glanced over my shoulder. Maybe it was worth it to go deal with ten werewolf alpha bachelor’s to get out of whatever this insanity was.

But still…it was Calix. How could I say no to the vampire that saved me? I sighed. “Fine.  I’m coming.”

I stepped inside, and the instant I did, the wall slammed shut behind me. “Shit!” I jumped at the sound of it.

There was a low chuckle. “This is your grand idea, Calix? That’s downright diabolical.”

The voice was deep and familiar. It made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. I looked up at the sound of it. I knew that voice. “Desmond?”

“Hello, Little Flower. It’s been a long time.” Desmond smirked at me. I took him in. The last time I had seen him, had been six years ago. He was a tall, broad-shouldered man, with curly, brown hair that fell into his eyes. There was a tattoo of a fleur-de-lis and a wolf paw on his right shoulder. He wore a white wife beater and jeans. There was a scar over his eye, and his lip had been cut.

“This isn’t possible!” I exclaimed. “I went to the funeral. You’re supposed to be dead!”

Desmond chuckled. “They had a funeral. That’s quaint. Funny, since they never found the body. Only the car that I was in. I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that Damien stopped looking so soon. He always wanted what was mine. That included your sister along with my role as Alpha. Now, I’m going to need your help giving them a taste of their own medicine.”
