I live in a small city. It’s not New York or LA. It’s a place that’s big enough to be a city, but not big enough anyone really knows about it.
I was at my work today. I saw a woman wearing a Be Good pin. It took a second. It was a shock to my system to see something from the outside world in my small city.
It’s conservative. There’s a lot of red hats and Trump signs in yards and people who protest abortion rights on the side of the road.
But seeing the Be Good pin put things into perspective. The pin was a reference to Renee Good, who was shot by ICE. Often times, living in a city like mine that’s so removed from everything, it feels like I’m the only person that is a democrat.
Seeing the little Be Good pin gave me hope and anything I was struggling with made me keep going at work today. The job is nothing glamorous. I’m working retail.
But I’m still alive. I’m still working to where I want to get to. And in today’s day and age, that’s a luxury in itself.
With love,
Diana
