I need a job, but I turned one down

I went to an interview today. It was for a caregiver position. Do I have experience? No.

Did they try to hire me as quickly as possible because they were desperate for people? Yes.

If I had another job, I probably would have taken it. I like the idea of helping people and it was only weekends. But that was the problem. It was only weekends. And they had to “figure out” what my salary would be.

I don’t want to have to beg for hours. I don’t want to have to “figure out” a salary. And I felt terrible after I left. Because in an ideal world, I’d be able to have a job where I could help people.

But unfortunately, I’ve got to pay my rent. And this is why revolutions don’t happen in America. People have to survive. There’s nowhere you can go that doesn’t require money.

I almost lost my health insurance too this week and the only way I was able to get it back was by spending three hours waiting on the phone talking to someone to remind them that I was unemployed and qualified for Medicaid.

And since I’m getting my degree right now, I can only work part time but I also have to pay my rent. There is no time to help people. There’s only time to work. And find work.

It’s the most frustrating thing in the world.
