The AIPAC Problem

If you don’t follow politics regularly, like me, you might be confused when someone says the term “AIPAC Money”. It’s something that has come up in conversation a lot recently with local elections. As Palestine has become something more people are seeing coverage of due to social media, how this atrocity has been allowed to happen is something people are looking at more closely.

AIPAC is part of the problem. AIPAC stands for the American Israel Public Affairs Committee. It’s a pro-Israel lobby group that is said to be one of the most influential members of congress. Probably because half of congress and elected officials got their money from AIPAC.

There’s a website you can use to check if your congressman is in the pocket of Big Brother Israel and their war machines.

It’s called trackaipac.com and if you are someone who would like to see less of American’s tax dollars funding war, check them out.

The frustrating thing about this is there are politicians on there who I believe are doing important work. But according to legalclarity.org, running for congress can take anywhere from $2 million to $30 million. Local races, like mayoral races, can take up to $100,000. To run for governor, for instance, can take millions of dollars.

Ideally, the funding for these campaigns would come solely from voter donations. But with politicians, it’s unclear sometimes where the line is between wanting power, wanting to help people, and what they’ll take to get it. A political campaign shouldn’t cost as much as a Hollywood Blockbuster to run.

Something needs to change so that we don’t have to question if our politicians interests are with the interests of the people or foreign entities that have no business being in our politics.
